With his signature flair for drama and sex appeal, Sergio Rossi releases another brilliant masterpiece with this strappy black heel built upon a nude 1½-inch platform. Lined and soled in leather, the powerful five-inch narrow heel draws the eye toward the double ankle band and silver zipper closure in the back. The pumps, which are available in the U.S. in sizes 6-10 medium, sell for $995.
Produced in his childhood home town of Romagna, Italy, each shoe undergoes a 120-point process before being placed in a box with the Sergio Rossi name attached. The bright colors and graphic shapes that he uses infuse his creations with elegant luxury and a fashion forward attitude. Others praise his work as a “precious accessory”, a “symbol of style” and an “essential component of a chic wardrobe.”
Rossi began to learn the tools and traditions of the master shoemaker by working alongside his father as a young boy in the 1950s. After apprenticing for two years in Milan, in 1996 Rossi began selling his own signature line of startlingly simple, but daring creations, in the shops of Bologna, Italy.
Nearly a decade later, he partnered with his long time friend and legendary designer, Gianni Versace, who utilized his seductive, powerful footwear to showcase his own latest collections on the Milanese runways. Soon, a Rossi shoe became a must-have among the world’s most famous designers. Throughout his career, he has worked with a century’s worth of the most celebrated couturiers, including Dolce & Gabbana, Gucci and Azzedine Alaia. Today, his vintage and contemporary creations are prized as collectible pieces of art.
Rossi describes his footwear as being fabulous and feminine, as well as confident and comfortable. He sees the shoes as simply being a continuation of the body. “A heel must be at least three inches high, which gives the leg its crucial energy and the female body its new stature,” Rossi explains on his website.
